Border Story (2009) chronicles the challenges faced by ethnic minorities in Myanmar when they are displaced from their homes by the perennial violence of the country’s ruling military regime. When people are forced to flee from their villages, they become known as “internally displaced people” (or IDPs). It is not until they cross an international border that they then become “refugees.” Border Story takes an unflinching look into the lives of both IDPs inside Myanmar and refugees in neighboring Thailand, and effectively documents the hardships they endure.

Stunning footage of Myanmar’s beautiful mountains forms a backdrop for a riveting tale of people displaced by decades of conflict. Through insightful interviews with activists and victims, Border Story presents a moving human drama within a broader historical context.
